National Heart Week, May 2022

St George Private Hospital celebrated National Heart Week (2-8 May, 2022) to help raise awareness about the importance of heart health, and deliver Heart Health Checks to interested hospital staff, patients and their families.

The hospital provided free blood pressure assessments and giveaways throughout the week, aided by their exuberant mascot, Horton the heart, named in honour of Dr Matthew Horton, a long standing cardiothoracic surgeon of the hospital.

Rachel Jenkins, Cardiac NUM said: 

"The National Heart Week promotion at St George Private Hospital provides us with an important opportunity to educate our patients, staff and the general public. One Australian has a heart attack or stroke every 4 minutes, hence this is an essential conversation with the community to empower them with knowledge of cardiovascular disease and the steps they can take to monitor and reduce their risk.” The cardiac team has also entered a competition for best heart display with the National Heart Foundation so let’s keep our fingers crossed for them!
