Dr Zhuoran Chen and Dr Jason Maani extended scope of practice (Robotics)

St George Private Hospital supports the continuous training and accreditation of our VMO’s. Dr Zhuoran Chen, (Urogynaecologist) and Dr Jason Maani, (General & Bariatric Surgeon), have recently completed their Da Vinci Xi Robotic Surgical training which is designed to use a minimally invasive surgical approach.

Robotic-assisted surgery with the daVinci®  Surgical System allows surgeons to perform complex minimally invasive surgical procedures with precision and accuracy. The system is an advanced robotic platform designed to expand the surgeon’s capabilities and offers an option to open surgery. It is primarly used for prostatectomies and increasingly for cardiac valve repair and for renal and gynecologic procedures.

Dr Chen commented on benefits provided to patients;  “Robotic surgery allows me to provide patients with the next level of expert care, combining surgical precision, innovation and achieving results previously not possible with open or  laparoscopic surgery. It's a very exciting new era for me and my patients, whilst Dr Maani outlined the benefits of robotic assist surgery as being a clear and precise view of the operating field as well as enhanced precision, flexibility and control during the operation which means that patients typically have less pain and recover more quickly.
