Dr Peter Wu is a Gastroenterologist and Hepatologist who has a special interest in swallowing disorders, including oesophageal/pharyngeal dysmotility, gastro-oesophageal reflux, and eosinophilic oesophagitis.

Dr Peter Wu graduated in Medicine from the University of NSW in 2006 and completed his training in adult gastroenterology in 2014. He was awarded a PhD (UNSW) in 2018 for a thesis where he investigated several novel diagnostic and therapeutic tools in the management of swallowing disorders. In 2019, he undertook a fellowship at Prince of Wales Hospital, the Chinese University of Hong Kong, where he developed advanced therapeutic endoscopic skills with a focus on the third-space endoscopy (endoscopic myotomy, advanced polyp resection).

Dr Peter Wu is an academic gastroenterologist with a strong focus in ongoing clinical research. His research has attracted multiple local and regional competitive grants, and its results have been published in international high-impact medical journals. He pioneered a novel minimally invasive procedure, cricopharyngeal peroral endoscopic myotomy (C-POEM), intended as a treatment for swallowing disorders due to neuromyogenic disorders (e.g., Parkinson’s disease). He is the director of the St George Motility Services (St George Public Hospital), supervising the Swallow Clinic, Gastrointestinal Motility Laboratory, and his research team.
