Healthy Heart For a Healthy Life Campaign

Following on from the success of the “Healthy Heart for a Health Life” campaign piloted in September 2006, St George and Kareena Private Hospitals ran their second Heart Week during National Heart Week in May
With a clear focus on building better relationships with our business community as well as with the public, both hospitals joined forces with their respective Municipal Councils to provide the popular free blood pressure testing services.
At St George Private
The Mayor of Kogarah, Mr Michael Kitmiridas, and General Manager Mr Paul Woods were brave enough to lead the way for Council at Kogarah Library and Cultural Centre by being one of the first to having their blood pressures tested.
Mr Woods said “This heart week initiative by St George Private has certainly been a great vehicle for raising awareness of heart health with our staff and the community. We were really happy to host the blood pressure testing at our Library and Cultural Centre. It has been a great opportunity for our Community and we’ll definitely be involved in more opportunities like this.”

Overall, the St George Cardiac team tested over 350 Blood pressures.
- 32% of those tested having a reading over 140/84.
- 57% of those with a high reading were women
- 48% of those with a high reading were UNDER 60 years of age
The publication and ongoing sales of “Recipes from the Heart” a cookbook written by members of the St George Private Cardiac team has been heartily embraced by all! The recipes are naturally heart friendly and delicious!!
