How To Refer A Patient

Any clinician with admitting rights may admit a patient to SGPH, either on an elective or urgent basis.

Your consulting suites will be supplied with Admission Kits and Patient Information Brochures which you are able to supply to your patients following consultation. For elective admissions, the completed kit may be returned to the hospital by either your rooms or by the patient. Admissions staff then processes the kit and the patient is booked in. Patients will be contacted by the hospital with their admission details and given a quote for any out of pocket costs.

For urgent admissions, the hospital may be called on 02 9598 5555 Page 003 to determine bed availability and to give the patient details including:

  • Name
  • Date of Birth
  • Diagnosis
  • Insurance/Fund/Payment details
  • Requirement for an operating theatre

All patients will be required to present insurance details, show proof of WorkCover approval or pay the estimated cost of their stay if self insured prior to admission.

The operating suites are covered by an on-call service after hours and are available for emergency surgery by the mutual convenience of the surgeon, the anaesthetist and the operating suite staff.

It is recommended that all patients requiring emergency care, are referred to the Emergency Department at St George Hospital, 02 9113 1111.
