Your Stay at St George Private Hospital

For your comfort and convenience SGPH offers a variety of services for your comfort.

Accommodation:

The Hospital offers a high standard of accommodation with both single and shared rooms available all with ensuite bathrooms. Each room has a remote control entertainment system with television, movies and radio access, as well as a direct dial telephone line to and from your room for personal calls. Every effort is made to accommodate you in the room of your choice.

Telephones:

Please ask your nurse on admission for details of your direct dial phone number. Local calls made from your room phone are free of charge, however a fee will be incurred for mobile, long distance and STD calls on discharge. Alternatively, public telephones are located in the Hospital foyer. We would ask that you do not use your mobile phone in the hospital as this may interfere with sensitive medical equipment. Please note that Internet access is not currently available in patient rooms.

Nurse Call System:

Should you require anything at any time, please do not hesitate to call the nursing staff via the button located on the bedside handset. Our staff will endeavour to answer your call as quickly a possible.

Patient Compendium:

By each beside you will find a Patient Compendium. This booklet will assist you in learning about the Hospitals’ services and staff. Please take time to read this booklet as it includes helpful advises about your stay and provides answers to many of your questions. A downloadable version is available if you click here (pdf).

A pen and pad is also provided in your room and we encourage you to note any queries you may have that you wish to raise with your specialist or nurse as your stay progresses.

Dining at St George Private Hospital:

As a patient at SGPH, you will receive fresh, innovative and nutritious meals prepared daily by our chefs. Each morning you will receive a menu from which you may select meals according to your taste and dietary requirements. Consultant dieticians are also available to provide assistance with special dietary requirements. If you have any concerns with your meals whilst a patient, please ask your nurse to contact the Catering Manager, who will be happy to meet with you and discuss your requirements further.

A special children’s menu is available to cater for the needs of our littlest patients.

Tangerine Café:

Located in the main foyer, the Tangerine Café offers a range of hot and cold beverages, meals, sandwiches, cakes and salads. Opening hours are between 07:30am and 18:30pm Monday to Friday and 08:00am to 15:00pm on Saturday and Sunday.

Mail/Fax:

Patients can send and receive mail and faxes via the hospital's main fax 02 9598 5555. Please ensure the patient's name, ward and room number are clearly stated. Stamps can be purchased from the Pharmacy. Mail received after you leave will be forwarded to your home address.

Pharmacy:

The pharmacy is located in the foyer of the Hospital and overs a range of toiletries, gifts and cards as well as medicinal items.

Newspapers & Magazines:

Newspapers and Magazines can be purchased from the Pharmacy in the hospital's main foyer area. Please check with the nursing staff should you require this service on weekends, as the Pharmacy is not open during this time.

Laundry:

The hospital does not provide a personal laundry service. Please make your own arrangements with the help of family or friends. If this is not possible, please ask your nurse about alternatives.

Hairdresser:

Hairdressing services are available on request. Please discuss this with your nurse.

Interpreters:

An Interpreter service can be arranged if necessary. Please discuss this requirement with your nurse.

Children:

SGPH is committed to providing flexible and family friendly care to the littlest of our patients. We recognise that any period of hospitalisation can be stressful for all concerned and our aim is to provide a safe yet family oriented environment.

We encourage parents to bring with them their child’s favourite toys or bedding to help alleviate any anxiety they may be feeling. Overnight accommodation is available to stay with your child.

ATM:

For your convenience, there is an ATM machine in the foyer.

Florist:

The florist is located in the foyer of the Hospital and can be contacted on 9598 5096. Please look at their website for more information: www.florist.com.au

Religious Visits:

A range of chaplaincy services are available on request to offer emotional and spiritual support to patients and families.

Veteran’s Liaison Officer:

The Hospital Volunteers, offer a visiting service for veterans whilst in hospital. In addition the Hospital has a Veteran’s Liaison Officer, who is able to assist veterans with their special needs and respond to any questions that you may have. Please discuss this with your nurse.

Smoking:

St George Private Hospital does not allow smoking inside the building or at the front entrance. For in-patients who need to smoke, an external area is available adjacent to the patient lounge in Ward 1 South. All other visitors should proceed to the front of the hospital, where there is an area on the opposite side of the driveway allocated as a smoking area.

Visiting Hours:

  • General wards 10am - noon, 3 - 8pm.
  • Maternity 3 - 5pm, 7 - 8pm. Fathers are welcome to visit anytime
  • Coronary Care Unit By arrangement with nursing staff
  • Intensive Care Unit By arrangement with nursing staff
